Kristin Reads

I have always had a love of reading and every year my passion for it grows! I am not picky and read books from a wide variety genres.

The Virgin Cure

The Virgin Cure - Ami McKay I am struggling to get through this novel. It is not that I am not enjoying it, however, I have read so many phenomenal novels lately that this one does not really compare. To be fair I have not finished it yet and my opinion can easily change! I can say that while the excerpts on the side of some pages are interesting, they tend to confuse me.

Before I Wake: A Novel

Before I Wake - Robert J. Wiersema This book had me thinking long after I finished reading it. I loved this writing style.

A Secret Kept

A Secret Kept - Tatiana de Rosnay Wasn't as good as Sarah's Key but it was an interesting read none the less!

War Horse

War Horse - I went in thinking I would absolutely hate this book. I am normally not a huge fan of books that focus on an animal because I spend the whole time worrying that they are going to die. I have also never had a great appreciation for horses. This book completely opened my eyes to how wonderful horses are and it really warmed my heart. If you are skeptical about reading this book please give it a chance. You won't regret it!

Have a Little Faith: A True Story

Have a Little Faith: a True Story - Mitch Albom Mitch Albom never ceases to amaze me.

The Male Brain

The Male Brain - Louann Brizendine It was an interesting read, but nothing I haven't already learned in my psychology courses! But I do want to buy The Female Brain now!

Safe Haven

Safe Haven - Nicholas Sparks

One of my favourite Nicholas Sparks books!

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - I have come to realize that I probably owe a lot to this book! My dad bought me this book when it first came out (I was 12 at the time) and I remember thinking "What a stupid title!" But it was my first summer at the beach and I hadn't made any friends yet so I figured why not? I became utterly obsessed with it and read it repeatedly. I associate my wonderful childhood summers at the beach with this book, and I also believe it is what really solidified my love of reading!

Room: A Novel

Room: A Novel - This is one of my favourite books, especially the first half. It is one of those books that I hated to put down and I found myself reading it through watery eyes most of the time. I would definitely recommend it.

Left Neglected

Left Neglected - Lisa Genova Absolutely loved it! More than Still Alice!

The Outsiders

The Outsiders - I read The Outsiders at least once a year. I have also read most of the other books that S.E Hinton has written and she has been one of my favourite authors for many years. The character Ponyboy will always be one of my favourite characters in any novel. It is a quick read that will bring you to tears. Go out and buy this now!

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl

The Diary of a Young Girl - B.M. Mooyaart, Eleanor Roosevelt, Anne Frank Growing up my father encouraged me to read The Diary of a Young Girl. He believed that it was important for me to be knowledgeable about the Holocaust and about Anne Frank. And he could not have been more right. I was about fourteen when I first read this on a vacation in Arizona. I should have been running around the pool and taking advantage of everything there was to do at the resort, but I could not put this book down. No one has inspired me more than Anne Frank, and it was eerie to me how much I related to her at the time. Since then I have read many books about the Holocaust, but this is the one that sticks with me the most. I think this is a must for any young girl! I know I will be handing down the copy my father bought me to my future daughter.

To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird - I read this novel in the seventh grade as it is one of my moms all time favourites. I absolutely loved this novel and have read it many times since. At 12 years old this book taught me many life lesson that I still put in to practice to this day, over ten years later. It is one of those novels that will stay with you forever and you will think about often. I can't recommend this enough!
